faq

Will I own the design?

Yes. The design, and the content, in fact the whole website will be owned outright by you. The only exception to this is certain parts of our bespoke programming and our shopping cart. We don't want to sell you one shopping cart or membership management system only to have you duplicate it on a million websites all over the world, so things like that are licenced for use on one domain name only.

Will the web pages be optimized for the main search engines?

Yes. We build standard optimisation into all our websites and notify the search engines that your website exists so they can index it. Depending on your business sector and the key phrases you need, you may require our dedicated search engine optimisation service.

How long does it all take?

This naturally depends on the complexity and overall size of the website. Some things we can do within 24 hours (small websites where the design is supplied) and some things take months.

How will updates be made?

If you have purchased a content management system then you will do the updates yourself. If not, then you will send us the updates by email and we will carry them out, usually for free, and usually within the hour. We undertake to make minor text and image changes for free, but if you send us something through which will take a while to implement then we will contact you with a price based on our hourly rate.

Is my site backed up?

Yes. Your database is backed up every 4 hours, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. But we can't restore a database backup from last week for you because your backup is overwritten every 4 hours. Your actual website files, as well as being on the web server, are also held on our local server, and this server is backed up at 5pm every evening, and the files are taken off-site on a portable drive in case of an overnight catastrophe at the office.

Is logo design included in the price?

Not usually, but we can include it if you like.

Does the design fee include image editing/scanning/production/photography?

Yes. Third party images are sourced from an online supplier of professional stock imagery and these costs are included in the cost of your site. Any photography and/or image processing work has been anticipated and included. You will never have copyright issues with the images on your site or unexpected additional invoices.

What are your support arrangements?

You'll be pleased to hear that we don't use premium rate 0900 numbers at £1.50 per minute! We are also very proud of the speed with which we resolve any issues, we're here to help not hinder! The best way to tell us about a problem is actually by email because it's monitored out of hours and we all pick it up. The email address is support@webequip.co.uk. We also have an extensive support section on our website which provides links to webmail and control panels and describes fixes for the most problems. If you can't email or really need to speak to somebody then you can contact us on 0871 717 9477.

If the site gets hacked will you charge to put it right?

In the unlikely event that you are hacked, we will carry out any remedial work free of charge, unless it was a 'clean hack' by someone who already had access rights to the site and decided to log in and cause havoc - for which s/he could face criminal charges - and for which we would unfortunately have to charge our time.

Can we transfer the site over to another company?

Yes, you own your domain name and the website design and content, you can move it to where you feel most comfortable with it. You are always free to use other developers to work on the site, however they must be made aware that they (or you) cannot make copies of any administration software and database schemas (and there is a notice inside the software saying so). We just want to make sure our work isn't copied across the world for the price of a single website. There must only ever be one instance in the world of the website software we developed for you (you can copy the design and the content as much as you like though).

How many email addresses can I have?

It's theoretically unlimited, but in real life you will start to hit problems after a couple of hundred or so. If you need more than about 15 email addresses on the web server you should probably be thinking about running an in-house mail server.

Will I be able to use my email abroad?

Yes, you have a webmail facility. Click here to find out how to access it, and how to use it.

If my visitors download lots of content will I be charged extra?

Absolutely not. Some of our customers have some heavy content on their site which is frequently downloaded, if they were on a different hosting plan they would be paying extra charges every month as their banwidth limit is exceeded. We don't have any bandwidth limits.
