About this and other RSS feeds

This is what is called an RSS feed provided by the support staff at the datacentre we use. Simply put, they regularly update a file on their server and we fetch it to put on our website. It's all to do with something called XML, and you can use it to great advantage on your own website.

There are thousands of articles on the internet about what RSS feeds are, just Google it and see, but to try and simplify matters, RSS feeds allow you to put up-to-the-minute content from another website on your website. So, why is it useful?

Well firstly, and very importantly, it means you can provide your visitors with the latest information from another website. So you might run an amateur football club website which not only contains all the news and results from your club, but also includes a premiership RSS feed giving the results from the Premiership. I hate football, it's just an example!

Secondly, it offers you a way of providing something which search engine bots love.. Up to date RELEVANT content.

You'll find many site provide RSS feeds. If we were a bit more prolific with our news section, and we thought somebody might be remotely interested, we could provide an xml file of our news for you to pick up so you could always receive the latest action from Web Equip!! How cool would THAT be??
